Camp Sequassen

Camp Sequassen is owned and operated by the Connecticut Yankee Council BSA which was recently formed by the merging of the Quinnipiac Council and the Fairfild County Council. The Ct. Yankee Council serves most of the New Haven and Fairfield Counties in southern Connecticut. The Camp is located in northwest Connecticut in New Hartford which is at the foot of the Berkshires. The five hundred-plus acres of diversified forest abounds with plants and wildlife. Being located on the crystal clear, mile long, spring fed West Hill Pond makes the waterfront an aquatic adventure paradise.

Summer Program

The camp offers many programs and facilities. An exciting Summer Camp program is provided for Scouts, Webelos and Cubs.

Rentals

Rentals of Cabins, Adirondack Shelters, Tent Sites, Dining Hall and other buildings and facilities are available when the Summer Camp is not in Session.

International Heritage

Sequassen is proud of it's seventy plus year history. International Camporees were held here in 1962, 1976, 1982, 1986 and 1992. Every year the staff includes several international counselors. Because of this the Camp has a strong international heritage, filled with many traditions of world brotherhood.

Patch Symbolism

The Patch Symbolism

The Patch

The central figure is the eager beaver holding out the laurel leaves in friendship to all campers who will accept it.

The three laurel leaves are the symbol of Camp. Like the points of the Fluer-de-lis, they represent the three parts of the Scout Oath.

The eager beaver signifies service to the Camp by us as Scouts, as recognized by the ranger. Hopefully, the patch will signify service to the Camp by us as adults.

Sequassen's pines are perhaps the first thing one is aware of upon entering Camp. It is the nostalgic scent of the tall pine forest that arouses the senses and stirs our memories of those wonderful times spent at Camp

It is the cool refreshing nectar of the Hermit's Spring that beckons us to return year after year, as no doubt it will for the rest of our lives. It was the drink of that magic water that surely resulted in our first reunion and which tests the saying "He who loved the woods and drinks from the spring will return".

"The Trails Invite Us Still" is an excerpt from a poem written by Chief Samuel D. Bogan. The sentiment it conveys is most apropos to our Alumni.

The stars, like those on the trefoil Scout badge, stand for the ideals of Truth and Knowledge of the Scout movement. They guide us by night and suggest a scout's outdoor life.

S.A.A. History

In 1975 a group of men were gathered at Camp Sequassen. They realized that they all had been campers 25 years before in the 50's. Someone suggested they meet annually at Camp for a reunion. This idea grew, bylaws were written and officers were elected. By the summer of 1976 the full Sequassen Alumni Association concept had developed.

Over the years the bylaws and requirements for membership have been modified, but the original purpose and intent has remained a constant.

Statement of Purpose and Intent

4. The Alumni shall always refer to Samuel D. Bogan as "CHIEF" in any of its correspondence or when making any other reference to Chief Bogan
